WHEN A WOLF IS HUNGRY

When a Wolf Is Hungry by Christine Naumann-Villemin and Kris Di Giacomo is a laugh out loud folktale that reminds everyone to not take things too seriously and consider all potential outcomes of our actions -- you might be surprised by what happens!

Edmond Bigsnout is a lone wolf. He lives by himself in a cabin in the woods, and he needs no companionship other than himself. But lately he's been craving rabbit for dinner. Urban rabbit. So he travels into the city to catch one. Sounds easy enough, right? Unfortunately for Edmond, things in the city are a little more chaotic, and he has a particularly tough time getting the dinner he thinks he deserves. But when a door closes, a window opens, and Edmond finds himself at the center of a developing relationship with a bunch of animals.

Not only are the illustrations colorful, they're filled with patterns and textures, so each detail of the illustrations stands out. Forgetting the fact that the illustrations are collaged (so they naturally stand apart from each other anyway), the patterned papers Di Giacomo uses for wallpapers, outfits, landscapes, etc. affords every piece of the illustration its own space to be noticed. The other media that Di Giacomo brings in only emphasizes the distinctions between each piece of the spread, like the colored pencil rope that Edmond carries, or the painted trees. These details make the illustrations outright stunning.
