Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Back in 2009 I happened upon a set of books that had just come out at the time. You've probably heard of them: Little Pea, Little Hoot, and Little Oink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. At the time, I was thinking of applying to graduate school to study children's literature, and I was thrilled to find a set of books that I connected with so quickly. The books are witty and thoughtful, representing colorful characters with relatable problems. Really, the perfect package (and you know I love books with fruits and veggies as the main characters!).

Since finding these books, I've spent eight years studying story and illustration, reading thousands of picture books and growing a mental "favorites" list of books to come back to again and again. Not once in eight years have these books ever left that list. They inspire me and remind me of when I started my journey into the world of children's books. And they'll stay with me to the end.

The news about Amy's illness is horrible, and her love letter to her husband in the New York Times last Friday was heart-breaking. But true to form and (Amy's first word,) her article created "more": more dialogue, more giving, more stories, more love, which is just about the best gift anyone could ever give to her readers.

Thank you, Amy, for sharing all of your stories with us over the years and allowing us a glimpse into a world of more.
