RIVERS

Rivers: A Visual History from River to Sea by Peter Goes surveys rivers from around the world and offers colorful graphics about their histories.

This oversized book takes readers on a journey to all seven continents on Earth to visit its major rivers. In Europe we see the Thames and Elbe,  in North America we see the Yukon and Mississippi, and so on, learning not just about the rivers themselves but their inhabitants, origins, mythological stories, and connections to major events.

Each new inked spread comes with its own set of monochromatic or dual-tone illustrations, though Goes spices in pops of color here and there for fun emphasis. The illustrations walk the fine line between comical and realistic, and in addition to the information we read about the river we also get a sentence or two about featured animals and local stories.
