Latinitas: Celebrating 40 Big Dreamers by Juliet Menéndez celebrates Latin women who followed their dreams and became influencers in their fields.
We meet 40 trailblazing Latinas as children before they became the women we celebrate and continue to learn from today. Featuring bright art and biographies of women from Latin America and the United States, Latinitas shines a spotlight on the power of childhood imaginations to inspire real-world change. Though there are only 40 full biographies, Menéndez manages to sneak in a few more at the end on a spread called "More Latinitas," and there is an extensive list of sources at the end so readers can follow-up and learn more about everyone in the book.
The design of the book is such that the Latin trailblazer sits on the verso page and the biography occupies the recto, with tons of information on her life and accomplishments. Menéndez meticulously hand-painted each illustration with Old Holland watercolors on Aquarelle Arches paper. She then digitally added the font, which was designed in Brazil, and she sticks with a graphic and bold color palette of reds, yellows, greens, and black.
