Let's Talk Illustrators #96: Amy June Bates
Written by Lesléa Newman and illustrated by Amy June Bates, Gittel's Journey took my breath away simply from the cover: it's clear that this is the story of a strong girl coming to America, and as she looks forward hopefully, it's as if she is gently urging readers to open the book and read her tale. Amy was kind enough to chat with me about how she created the illustrations for Lesléa's text, and I'm pleased to share that here. Enjoy!

Let's Talk Illustrators #14: Anna Walker
I was lucky enough to get a chance to chat with famed Australian author-illustrator Anna Walker about her illustration and story processes for her 2015 picture book Mr. Huff, as well as her upcoming book Florette. Anna's prolific body of work speaks for itself, but in case you're unfamiliar here in the States, Anna's children's books are full of beauty and subtlety, and they always radiate emotion.
Be sure to scroll to the bottom for a look at the official Florette book trailer!

ROSIE & CRAYON
Do not open Deborah Marcero's gorgeous new picture book Rosie & Crayon unless you're ready for a heart-wrenching, honest tale of a girl and her best canine friend. I mean it. Grab some tissues first. But once you ARE ready, this book will stay with you for a lifetime.

LOVE IS A TRUCK
Love Is a Truck is the second book in Amy Novesky and Sara Gillingham's "Love Is" series, and it's a true delight to experience it. This is a book for children who love ice cream trucks and fire trucks and flatbed trucks, and children who love riding, organizing, and parading trucks around. But it's also a love story about love itself.

mixed media,

URSA'S LIGHT
I don't know how I resisted Deborah Marcero's Ursa's Light for five and a half months! It's one of those magical books that has somehow magically alluded me for an embarrassingly long amount of time. So when I was in the UK the other week and I saw it in a bookstore, I knew it was finally time to get it. Best. Decision. Ever.
