I was over the moon when I learned that the second book in An Adventure with Little Kunoichi the Ninja Girl was coming out. And it doesn't disappoint! Chibi Samurai Wants a Pet by Sanae Ishida is a wonderful addition to the series.
Picking up where the last book left off, Chibi Samurai sets off to find a companion for himself after witnessing just how close Little Kunoichi and her pet ninja bunny are. Chibi Samurai takes out his trusty map and sets out to find himself a furry friend, talking to locals and meeting giant, mythical animals along the way. But, as things usually are in life, the best friend he's been searching for has been there all along.
This book is SO MUCH FUN. When I say that it turns out his best friend was there all along, I meant it, and it's so wonderful to read the book all over again and find his pet in every page. As someone who fell hard for the first book in the series, I loved the continuity of seeing the same characters, sensing the same tones of friendship and helping others, and, of course, getting to see the same bright colors that make up Little Kuniuchi and Chibi Samurai's world. The watercolor illustrations are never too tight, so while readers can distinguish between every piece of the illustration, there's also the added fun of being able to see the medium come through the page.
Chibi Samurai Wants a Pet published from Little Bigfoot in August!
